Cohabitation and divorce

Follow Us

Today, many people live together in a relationship.  Some relationships end up in marriage while the majority just live together. Marriage is one of the biggest commitments two people can make.

Did you know that more than half of marriages today are preceded by some form of cohabitation?  The question that comes to mind is, “Does the experience of cohabitating make couples better spouses?”  Can cohabitation make a marriage happier?

Statistics indicate that people who cohabitate with each other before marriage have a much higher likelihood of divorcing than married couples who never cohabitated.

If you happen to be one of the unlucky couples who tried living together and then married, but are now talking about divorce, I would suggest you contact an experienced and knowledgeable Riverside Family Law attorney who can discuss your legal options and help you decide if divorce is the answer for you and your spouse.
