Is divorce hurting the economy?

According to a recent study by the National Marriage Project, the loss of stable marriages undermines the financial health of the nation.  The study, which compared individuals who were married through their adulthood to counterparts who had not, stated that, “Marriage offers surprising economic benefits, while also noting that divorce is very costly to the public.”

The results indicated that those who did not marry suffer a reduction in wealth of 75% and those who divorced and did not remarry a reduction of 73%.  In addition, it stated that marriage has a large impact on the national economy as well as divorce.
