What is a non-contested divorce process?

A divorce can be a difficult and stressful time in the lives of the two people and anyone else who is affected.  It is important to reach out for support from friends, loved ones and even professionals.

The divorce process can go smoothly depending on the circumstances and if it is not contested by one of the spouses.  It begins when one person files for divorce (the petitioner) with the appropriate family court.  The papers will outline the grounds for divorce and what the petitioner is seeking; however, California is a no-fault divorce state so the petitioner does not need to prove fault in order to obtain his or her divorce.

Once the papers are filed, they will be served to the other party.  Again, if the divorce is not contested and there are no children involved, the divorce process will be relatively simple.
