What is a trial separation?

Follow Us

When a couple is heading for divorce, but not quite sure they want one, they might try a separation first. After all, space apart from each other and time to think things through might be the answer to their problems.

A trial separation can last a few days or a few weeks, or possibly a few months. In many cases, a trial separation results in a reconciliation between the couple. Even though the couple usually lives apart, one is usually staying with friends or family – he or she hasn’t gotten a permanent place.
