What is fair spousal support?

Follow Us

Divorce issues, for the most part, have a tendency to create conflict.  At the top of the list is spousal support.

If you and your spouse cannot agree on a fair amount of spousal support to be paid, for what length of time, and under what conditions, the court will make the decision for you.  Letting the court decide can be costly and emotionally traumatic.  In some cases, spousal support is not awarded.

Sit down with your spouse.  Take the time to come to an agreement and make it part of your separation of marital settlement agreement.  Include all details regarding payment, for how long, etc.  A fair amount of spousal support allows the spouse to continue living in a manner he or she was used to prior to the divorce.

If you are having problems coming up with an amicable agreement on your own, contact an experienced Riverside Family Law attorney who will sit down and discuss your options with you.
